FIREFLY 2018 SOUNDBITES: OUR STAFFS 10 SECOND THOUGHTS ON THIS YEARS ARTISTS TO WATCH

Firefly 2018 Artists to Watch

FIREFLY 2018 ARTISTS TO WATCH

We are about to head out on a four day camping trip to Firefly Festival 2018. Last year we got to chat it up and see one of our favorite artists, Bishop Briggs, win over the crowd with her high energy performance. This year hosts a whole  new lineup of artists we are excited to see take over the stages in Dover, Delaware. Aside from legendary artists like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Arctic Monkeys, here’s some talent the Highlark crew is referring and some 10 second reasons why:

[+] TIERRA WHACK

“I really respect Tierra Whack’s contribution to hip-hop. When I listen to her music I am immediately transported into her crazy world. If Whack’s performances are as fun as her music videos filled with dream-like characters, we are in for a good time.” MITCH

[+LORD HURON

“Folk melancholy with amazing composition and a variety of instruments, the Michigan-born but LA-based band sounds reminiscent of Fleet Foxes. My favorite tracks are ‘Fool For Love’ and ‘The Night We Met.'” ALLI

[+MIKE D

“Despite the indifference his DJ’ing skills have been received with in the past, I’d be more than down to take in a set from Mike D. I may be more partial to the man than the music (and to the 5 Boros), but I do think a lyricist and multi-instrumentalist like that might be able to do some serious good when left alone with a Macbook!” ANITA

[+MELVV

“The young artist began producing at age 12. Now 21, he’s remixed tracks by artists like MØ and Marian Hill. But his own tracks (‘Not Me,’ ‘Lifeline,’ and ‘Anything Else’) are even better. Definitely a must-see act.” ALLI

[+MORGXN

“One of our SXSW faves, he’ll be playing songs from his new album vital, released less than a month ago, at Firefly. His clear, melodic voice and dope production enhances his electronica/indie/R&B sound.” ALLI

[+JIMMY EAT WORLD

“Sure, I’m seeing them both night they’re playing at Brooklyn Steel (June 13th and 14th), but I truly can’t get enough of these guys. They always put on a great show, and even though they have nine studio albums, they always play the tracks you’re dying to hear. ” JOHNNY

[+LAUV

“So excited for this fellow NYU alum to play Firefly. He’s been blowing up recently, for good reason. With a beautiful voice, catchy songs, and endearing lyrics, it’s impossible not to love Lauv.” ALLI

[+SMALLPOOLS

“Smallpools first got on my radar back in 2013 with their infectious tune ‘Dreaming.’ Their 2017 EP THE SCIENCE OF LETTING GO kept them there. Can’t wait to see them perform ‘Passenger Side’ live.” ALLI

[+] WARREN G

“Who doesn’t want to see the legendary smooth operator bring those feel good vibes and swagger to Firefly.” –MITCH

[+THE NIGHT GAME

“Saw these energetic performers at the Bowery Ballroom in April with The Band CAMINO. ‘Bad Girls Don’t Cry’ is an anthem.”  ALLI

[+CHASE ATLANTIC

“Despite their dark songs about drugs and dancing in clubs, there’s something compelling about this Australian trio. Their sound incorporates elements of hip-hop and trap production into alt-pop and alt-rock production.” ALLI

[+ALICE MERTON

“I’ve got NO ROOTS.” GARRETT

[+WELSHLY ARMS

“Major hit “Legendary” blew up last fall. Be on the lookout for more major hits coming soon.” GARRETT

[+ALT-J

“Their first two albums (2012’s “An Awesome Wave” and 2014’s “This Is All Yours”) forever hold a special place in my heart. They’re fun live and have a great visual performance.” JOHNNY

[+RAG’N’ BONE MAN

“You can feel the passion while this man sings – must see act.” GARRETT

[+OOKAY

“Live Electronic re-invented with a new LIVE set.” GARRETT

[+ALEX LAHEY

“Young new Australian talent – Pop sound with catch lyrics – listen to her hit song “Every Day’s the weekend”.” – GARRETT

[+EMINEM

“He’s always been a passionate artist and you can hear it in every one of his albums. I haven’t had to pleasure of seeing him live yet, but I’m sure the same would go for his on stage performance.” JOHNNY

[+SHALLOU

“Laid-back, chill summer vibes – perfect summer festival set.” GARRETT

[+THE KILLERS

“Definitely topping my list of acts to see live, mostly because of their lasting longevity which everyone seems to treat as an attempt to bring back something that once was-I’d love to see if they are the kind of band that settled into their own aftermath instead.” ANITA

[+TWO FRIENDS

“Probably the guys who DJ’d the college house parties you used to go to – there still cool tho… Notable remix for headling artist this year The Killers with their remix of “Mr. Brightside”.” GARRETT

[+FLOR

“Flor is another artist I haven’t had the chance to see live, but one I’ve loved since I first of them in 2015. Their debut album come out, you’re hiding is full of catchy choruses and beautiful vocals.” JOHNNY

[+WHETHAN

“Notable electronic bangers -Brought out Mason ‘Walmart Yodel Kid’ Ramsey at Coachella this year.” GARRETT
