Irfan Onurmen is a well acclaimed Turkish artist, focusing on the discrepancies between personal and public experience. The opening reception for Irfan’s latest solo exhibition, Pendulum, was held Thursday Night at C24 Gallery in Chelsea Manhattan.
The show’s theme surrounds the ‘pendulum’ moving between personal experience and the nature of our times, expressing the effects of the media on our lives. His works are made from layered tulle of neutral tones and cool colors, with the occasional strike of red and orange. The layers create a physical depth, yet are transparent, creating an opposing idea that substance can be misleading.
From the beginning of the night, crowds formed to create a large gathering of professionals interested in Irfan’s work. I spoke with art professors, fashions stylists, and young artists; I felt inspired to be in a room with so much talent.
