Omar Apollo’s Emotions Heat Up on “Frio” Produced by Kenny Beats

The Mexican-American Artist Shares His First Full Spanish Track

Since his 2018 introduction with his first EP Stereo, Omar Apollo has made a name for himself in the music scene with his own brand of fused R&B, funk, alternative, soul-pop. His unquestionable talent landed him breakout mentions as a rising artist to watch from the likes of  Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and YouTube; and all with great reason as his undeniably steady route to the top continues with no signs of slowing down.

Apollo’s most recent venture explores new territory on his latest single Frio, produced alongside Kenny Beats, marking his first song entirely in his native language. The song carries his signature R&B rhythmic sounds glazed with a sultry dembow beat. Add his emotionally abounded lyrics reflecting on the tribulations of relationship cycles, and the track is an instantly infectious anthem for a night out on the town in search of new love or a night in reminiscing on a past one.

He shares the song was inspired and written on a trip back to his hometown:This was the first song I made fully in Spanish. I was in my hometown for my brother’s wedding, and I was at the attic where I used to live with six other people and where I used to record all of my early music. I was with my bassist Manny and my homie Tony and we just started making beats like we did back in the day. I got the verse and hook and then we stopped. Once I was back in LA I brought it to my homie Kenny Beats. The song is about not wanting to repeat the same cycle of emotions- but also about being stuck in that cycle too. Coming in and out of the cycle of a relationship.”

The release also follows Apollo’s late night television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where he performed an entrancing rendition of his hit single “Ashamed.” He is now preparing to embark on an 18 stop cross-country headlining tour The Speed of Sound, that will also be making stops at Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival and Tropicalia Festival, before closing out the year on December 15th in Atlanta.
