OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY OCTOBER 29TH6PM – 10PM
OCTOBER 29TH – NOVEMBER 23RD | PORTLAND, OR
Antler Gallery will open our latest two-person show on October 29th featuring new works by Annie Owens and Craww.
Both are renowned gallery artists, showing in many distinguished venues both here in the United States and elsewhere, who have an uninhibited fascination with the macabre.
Annie Owens, who lives in Northern California, works primarily in watercolor to create her haunting, ethereal, paintings. Her ability to set impeccably crafted scenes with imaginative and captivating narratives allow her to stand apart as a truly unique and accomplished artist.
This latest series incorporates some familiar elements from previous bodies, such as uprooted houses, while also exploring new terrain. The piece “Leaving So Soon” could have been plucked from an early Hitchcock movie, such is the attention to detail and atmosphere. The expression of the subject, perched upon a park bench accompanied by her suitcase and a lone crow, asks the viewer more questions than it answers.
Craww, based in Sheffield, England, is known for his elegant and engaging paintings as well as his intensely detailed drawings. He has an incredible ability to execute stream of consciousness works with a masterful precision.
There is a captivating familiarity with the imagery he focuses on, folkloric and furtive rather than straight-up fantastical. His latest works, displayed in Portland for the first time, include paintings which incorporate some previously unexplored imagery as well as some large scale, sprawling drawings.
We are particularly excited about this show because we feel there is an unspoken affinity between the work of each artist, as though their works were destined to be exhibited side-by-side.
The artists are available for interview upon request, please don’t hesitate to contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org
The show will open on Thursday, October 29th, with a reception attended by both artists from 6pm-9pm
