Whether it’s black and white sketches or vibrant acrylic paint, Japanese artist, ONEQ never fails to catch your attention. Not only does ONEQ have beautiful paintings and sketches, she also paints large murals, which can be found in several different parts of Japan including Kumamoto City, Omuta, and Chatan.
ONEQ makes stunning images of women in a style reminiscent of the pop art era, but with a twist of her own. ONEQ’s art creates an eerie feel by contrasting dark imagery with solid and bright color combinations. The women in her illustrations all share the same pouty lips, flowy hair, and perfectly smooth skin. Each work of art shows a fascination with female features and creates mystery within each woman’s facial expression, forcing you to surrender yourself to the unknown.
It is clear that ONEQ is interested in female features due to the lips of each woman always being the brightest color present. By choosing colors such as deep red or fuchsia, she is able to accentuate or even sexualize each portrait. Even when she chooses to make her work in grayscale, she decides to paint the lips black, drawing attention to the heart shape of the woman’s mouth.
While ONEQ is a Japanese artist, her illustrations have sparked the interests of other countries. ONEQ’s work was recently on display in New York City for the Scope Art Show. The show featured three of her acrylic paintings, all of which subscribed to her signature style of female portraiture in bright colors.
ONEQ continues to make her way through the world of art by creating her pop art-esque images of alluring beauties in all different kinds of artistic mediums. While her art is very important to her identity, ONEQ wants to make it clear that she is also incredibly passionate about her pet cat. As she puts it simply on her Facebook page, ”Personal Interests: It is only a cat”.
