Buttigieg’s Big Spoon
Throughout history, music and politics have been interconnected. Many artists have taken political stances. Sometimes that has led to boycotts. Some have lent their voice to help political candidates. Last night, Lis Smith, a communications adviser to Mayor Pete Buttigieg who is running for United States President posted a short video of the democratic candidate playing Spoon’s “The Way We Get By.”
Thanks to his honest approach, the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana has propelled himself to the top echelon of the democratic field. Currently that includes Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Beto O’Rouke and Elizabeth Warren. Buttigieg (pronounced BOOT-edge-edge) is 37-years old, and currently the only candidate running that represents the millennial generation. In many ways Spoon’s “The Way We Get By” is an iconic songs for many in the millennial generation. Which, for those of us younger than 40 – makes it pretty cool.
But then it got more awesome. Spoon responded:
“So this guy can just do everyone’s job, huh.”

Then Mayor Pete responded:
Hey it’s just the way I get by https://t.co/t2mtDxNTkl

And that was pretty dope. Sometimes we need that casual reminder that politicians are just like us, and are just trying to get by (and have a little fun too).
Not a bad way to start the weekend.
