WE’RE ALL JUST WEIRD FILTERS
Life experiences shape our view on the world, and sometimes siblings are into the same sport or in the case of sisters Monika and Karen Walker of The New Tarot, they play in a band together. I always think that playing in a band with your sibling can either turn out amazing or absolutely terrible. The Walkers though definitely have turned this into something great, but maybe only because they agreed to not play each other’s weapon of choice! They come from an artistic household and although on their own their parents are wonderful people, I was told that they just couldn’t get along at home. This sort of thing always has an affect on kids, but the sisters found peace in the arts, especially music. We tend to think of love only in a romantic sense between two people, but perhaps there is love in the fact that different people can come together to create music, hear harmonies and understand its beauty. The audience then can appreciate and even relate to these sounds and words that have been created. It goes back to the saying music is the universal language, but maybe what they’re really saying is that love is the universal language.
(Art) Saves us from the hell that sometimes happens to us in our lives.
Ultimately, we all need to find peace and do something that makes others happy as well. This is especially true if you’re an artist, but the most important thing to know is that it is possible. In the end we’re all just weird filters spitting shit out!
Be on the look out for the premiere of their first single from their debut LP on December 28th via Noisey! If you live in New York, catch them live December 30th at Le Poisson Rouge with Eskimo Wave & AJ Smith. Go here for a chance to win some free tickets to this show!
