CardiB, Beyonce are just like us: feeling Queen of Summer, Lizzo
“The fact that Lizzo a couple months ago felt underestimated and now she has a #1!!!!BITCH! take that! take that !” CardiB tweeted today. “Makes me emotional. It’s the best feeling in the world.” I think we can all say that CardiB speaks for all of us. Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” hits Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lizzo’s performance at the MTV’s Video Music Awards on August 26th undoubtably helped Lizzo become the performer of Summer 2019 and atop the Billboard 100. Lizzo was able to reach new audiences, inspire new fans, and speak truth.
It’s not just CardiB who is feeling Lizzo this summer, over the weekend Beyonce and Jay Z can be seen enjoying Lizzo’s set at Made in America Music Festival in Philadelphia.

“Truth Hurts” is Lizzo’s first No. 1. However, Lizzo’s ascent to the thrown was not overnight. For years, Lizzo has been performing around the country bring her “self-love is primary care,” feel good, unapologetic energy. First came Lizzobangers in 2013 then came Big Grrrl Small World in 2015. It was her 2016 EP Coco
nut Oil with hits “Good as Hell,” “Scuse Me,” “Worship,” and “Coconut Oil” that captivated the audiences at SXSW.
Each of those songs should have become No. 1 songs. Lizzo’s mainstream success came with the insanely well-done Cuz I Love You. Hits such as “Juice,” “Tempo,” “Boys,” “Soulmate,” “Like a Girl,” and yes “Truth Hurts” played all summer long. There was not a car or a store that wasn’t playing Lizzo.
Cuz I Love You has become an empowerment anthem for women (and men) everywhere. Sure the truth hurts but for some reason when Lizzo sings it; it feels so good, so empowering, and so so unique.
Congratulations to our future president, Lizzo! And Fuck you, Jerome. #Lizzo2020
