Oh, he’s Kehlani’s cousin.
Marteen has much love and appreciation for the support and guidance Kehlani has given him, but let’s make one thing clear, he has no intentions of riding on her coattails.
So who is Marteen? He is just that kid from the Bay, that sings.
He also loves the 90s, from music to fashion – an era that he is drawn to thanks in part to growing up listening to his parents blast great R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop like Musiq Soulchild and Lauryn Hill.
I’m naturally drawn to older clothes. I see grandmas or grandpas on the street just walking… Be like “That sweater is fire! That’s crazy where did they get that?”
Marteen maybe young but he is more than ready to turn R&B and Pop Music on its head, all the while being unapologetically himself with the release of his latest EP NOTHANKYOU.
We caught up with him to hear his story about how he discovered his singing abilities and how he faced his fears head on to get himself in the game.
One thing we can be certain to expect from Marteen is authenticity. You will never see him trying to be or sound like someone else, or sing about things he hasn’t experienced.
