ELECTRIC ZOO 2017: THE 6TH BORO
New York City’s annual animal themed electronic music festival Electric Zoo (this year dubbed ‘The 6th Boro’) brings around 80,000 dance music enthusiasts from all over the world for 3 days during Labor Day weekend.
The great thing about this festival is that it is extremely accepting of everyone no matter what you are wearing or what you look like. It’s a space where you can express yourself freely and wear outfits that you may not be able to normally and of course, the more outrageous, the better. The only goal is to have fun and when you’re having fun, you are usually wearing something that makes your feel comfortable and confident.
Here are 5 looks that dominated EZoo this year, and pretty much every year.
[1] THE BARELY THERE
There is no better time to bare it all and literally be comfortable in your own skin than at an electronic music festival. Shirtless men and girls with just a bra and shorts or even pasties were extremely common sightings at EZoo.
[2] THE RAVER
Don’t we all have at least one raver outfit stashed somewhere in our closets? Baggy pants, neon tops and bottoms, over accessorizing and glow sticks were all game again this year, as expected.
[3] THE COSTUME
With a name like Electric Zoo, you can count on seeing many animal costumes but you’ll also see a wide variety of looks from simple masks to costumes that cover you from head to toe. After all, these festivals are basically like a giant costume party.
[4] THE SUMMER CASUAL AND THE BEACH
Bikini, tank top, shorts, backpack. I could be listing off things to wear to the beach, but I’m actually listings what many people had on at Electric Zoo this year. Comfort seems to be the current fashion trend these days, and it was extremely visible among festival goers where many just wore casual summer or beach clothes.
[5] THE SPECTACLE
I’m actually not sure if the festival hires these people or they are just a bunch of extremely dedicated festival goers but every year you’ll see few groups wearing impressively elaborate custom made costumes. Whatever the case, they are essential to the festival and deserve a spot on this list.
