A Promised Day of Music, Tacos & Community
Tropicalia Music & Taco Festival returns this year with a lineup that was all too quickly heard around the music world. In only its third year; the music festival has become a household through its carefully curated and individually tailored event uniting carnivorous cumbia lovers, pescatarian alternative rockers and vegan shoegaze enthusiasts (and every combination in between) alike.

Returning to its home base of Southern California; the event is moving from its prior location of Queen Mary Park in Long Beach, CA to the Pomona Fairplex. Its initial location was slated for Pico Rivera Sports Arena; but after a sell out in just a few minutes after tickets went on sale, its seems organizers made a location switch as a way to appease demand and allocate more space for those seeking to attend. (And yes, that means tickets are now still available!)
Also returning, is the festivals incredible lineup curation; dropping one of the most widely surprising line ups fueled with major current returning headlining stars like Chicano Batman, Cuco and Kali Uchis, many surprising reunions like Los Terricolas, Los Freddy’s and Los Pasteles Verdes. With its strongest line up to date; there is no strange reason why the festival is marked as one of the most highly anticipated of the year. Los Tigres Del Norte return as headliners this year after the release of their documentary on Netflix highlighting the intersection of their music and community; a parallel to so many on the list.
Alongside; it will not be unexpected that this lineup may draw many older generations out to the fairgrounds with the addition of legendary acts Caifanes, Paquita La Del Barrio and Hombres G. Additionally the festival will also be bringing in much younger crowds with heavy hitting indie acts like Omar Apollo, The Marias and The Drums.
Aside from the ever so greatly curated lineup of music; this year Tropicalia has additionally expanded its curation of its taco selection lineup by partnering with L.A. Taco’ a leading LA based website and experts on all things tacos. This year will feature the best of the best of the diverse styles of taco cuisine Southern California can offer.
The event in conjunction with its star studded lineup over the last three years since its inception has served as a testament to the void of culturally centered music festivals in the music scene. From curating genres to generations; the diversity and intersection within the lineup is easily one of the grandest markers for its wild popularity and success. Not too niche, not too broad; it has found the perfect center of refreshing the multi-musical palette that exists within so many Latino identifying people, the most rapidly increasing population in the Country.
Tropicalia and its continuance allows a celebration of the reminder of the magnitude that Latinx influence has throughout music culture from the artists, music and food alike. It builds off of the togetherness that can be manifested through the creation and careful maintenance of spaces that are rooted in community.
Check out our flashback recap from the very first year below. And with the recent relocation; more passes have been released for the highly anticipated event. Be sure to get your tickets and take a look at the full lineup at TropicaliaFest.com.
