With the onset of Yeezy Season and RiRi’s Puma takeover, the music industry has officially taken over the runway. They’ve ruled the sound of fashion week for years, but now artists are giving designers a run for their money by proving that they can do much more than produce a fire track. The latest designer to test out his hand in the luxury clothing market is none other than LA based rapper and director, Tyler the Creator. This last month, Tyler released his Golf Wang FW 2016 lookbook – a vibrant, eccentric dream world of streetwear.
Known for his tongue-in-cheek humor, Tyler has never been one to take his work too seriously. With a monochromatic, teal background, each page features hyper-saturated colors and witty post production techniques that reflect the ‘Odd Future’ humor the Creator has championed for years. His Crayola wonderland includes donut printed vans, bright chinos, box logo snapbacks, and graphic socks.
Like many other streetwear brands, there is a strong theme of excessive branding, with tees, athletic slides, and beanies all donning a bold faced GOLF insignia. But don’t expect Tyler’s models to look like average Supreme or Palace wearing skaters. By juxtaposing minimal basics and flashy statement pieces, Tyler seamlessly integrates his highlighter aesthetic with mainstream styles. Some of the most exciting moments are his polka dotted denim, flame printed pants, and colorful fur coats.
Unlike Kanye and Rihanna, Tyler made his line accessible for almost any fan. With online prices ranging from $7-$110, his smiley face golf balls can be teed up all over the world. Although the clothes aren’t accessorized by the same performance-art-party of his show, his offbeat style still sings loudly through each garment. For so long, we only dreamed of visualizing the dream world of Tyler the Creator’s music. Take a glimpse at his lookbook to see a peek for yourself.
